How to prepare for a technical interview
Technical interviews can sometimes feel like bumpy roads.
But with a little bit of preparation, confidence and communication you can set yourself up for success. It may not always end up with an offer but it will certainly help bring clarity and growth.
Here are a few pointers that will help with your technical interview experience:
- Prepare for the interview - research about the hiring company and their projects, recap on theoretical aspects of programming, rehash your past accomplishments (the context, the actions, the result, the lessons) and make sure you have all the details about the meeting (time, place/platform, structure, evaluation process);
- Have the right mindset - admit when you don’t know the answer and ask for the solution, be honest, if you feel stuck ask clarifying questions, don’t rush into answers, describe your thinking process out loud , ask for feedback;
- Show interest - be curious, maintain a friendly flow of conversation, be authentic (express your motivation, why you like their team or their project- leave a lasting impression), prepare questions in advance if you want to ask something in particular;
- Keep in mind that decision and evaluation are bidirectional - make sure you have a clear understanding of the company, the role and their values, remember you are also evaluating them, mind the impostor syndrome;
- Leave an open door - be polite, let the interviewers know that you are open to answering any other questions or clearing any concerns.
